Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

  • Managing an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED

  • Secondary assessment and recovery position

  • Recognising and assisting a casualty who is choking

  • Managing a casualty with external bleeding

  • Managing a casualty who is in shock

  • Minor burns

  • Managing a casualty with epilepsy

  • Recognising and managing a casualty with angina/heart attack/stroke

  • Be able to manage a casualty with a minor injury

First Aid at Work (FAW)

This course covers the content specified by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSE NI).

  • Dealing with an emergency

  • Assessing and monitoring a casualty

  • Where to get help

  • Accident recording and reporting

  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

  • Unresponsive and breathing

  • Unresponsive and not breathing, including the use of an automated external defibrillator(AED)

  • Choking

  • Bleeding

  • Shock

  • Burns

  • Fainting

  • Poisoning

  • Head injury

  • Hypothermia/heat exhaustion

  • Medical emergency

  • Seizure

  • Heart attack

  • Angina attack

  • Stroke

  • Asthma attack

  • Severe allergic reaction

  • Diabetic emergency

  • Injury to a bone, muscle or joint (including spinal injuries)

Paediatric First Aid

This Paediatric First Aid Course has been developed for those who are working with babies and children. This will be of particular interest to Child Minders, Crèche Assistants, Playgroup personnel and anyone responsible for youth organisations.
